Chief Executive Officer

Guelph Public Library is seeking a visionary leader to serve as its Chief Executive Officer. As the head of the organization, you will play a key role in shaping the future of the library and driving its mission to provide ways for people to explore their world, enrich their lives, and connect with their community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership to the library, ensuring its continued growth and success.
  • Collaborate with the Library Board to develop strategic plans and align the library's vision, mission, values, and annual work plans.
  • Attract, develop, and retain a high-performance executive team, ensuring the necessary management information systems are in place to assess the organization's performance.
  • Establish and maintain a business continuity plan, ensuring the library's resilience and adaptability in the face of change.
  • Lead the risk assessment process and create and maintain cost and risk control procedures, as well as compliance with those procedures.
  • Direct senior leaders to develop quality standards and protocols, public service policies and procedures, health and safety policies, and security protocols.
  • Implement and manage effective internal control systems to protect the organization and maintain organizational assets.
  • Guide the development, execution, and evaluation of a fundraising strategy, ensuring appropriate policies and procedures are in place to support fundraising, sponsorships, and endowment building.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and support for the Board in policy setting, ensuring the effective implementation of Board policies and decisions.
  • Cultivate a healthy working relationship with Friends of the Guelph Public Library and/or Library Foundation, promoting the library and enhancing its role in the community.
Requirements:
  • Master's Degree in Library Science or related field, or a bachelor's degree in a related field with significant experience working in the public sector.
  • Minimum of ten years' related work experience, preferably in senior management roles within public libraries or similar organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead organizations through periods of transformation, guiding and facilitating individuals and groups towards a vision while maintaining cohesiveness, motivation, commitment, and effectiveness.
  • Progressive understanding of the library and its value to the community.
