Nutrition and Food Services Worker

This is a unique opportunity to join our team as a Utility Worker in the Nutrition and Food Services department at Nova Scotia Health.
The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and serving meals and supplies to patients, residents, and staff, while maintaining a clean and safe environment. This role requires excellent customer service skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, be able to lift up to 35-40lbs, and be able to stand and walk for extended periods. Restaurant experience is considered an asset, and proficiency in English and basic math is required.

Key Responsibilities- Patient Meal Selections: Answering patient phone calls, entering meal selections on a computer, and visiting patients in their room to enter meal selections.
- Product/Food Preparation/Assembly and Service: Assembling, portioning, and serving patient and visitor meals, preparing nourishments, special feedings, and beverages.
- Delivery and Collection: Delivering and distributing selective menus and patient meals, collecting soiled patient trays.
- Food Handling: Participating in receiving and storing supplies, receiving and interpreting patient diet/meal orders, and maintaining basic work area safety and sanitation.
- Menu Duties: Generating and printing menus, reports, tallies, and labels.
We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented individual who is able to work in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will have:
- Grade 12/GED or equivalent, or demonstrated skills and/or relevant work experience.
- Restaurant experience is considered an asset.
- Customer Service Skills considered an asset.
- Ability to work as part of a team to provide services and achieve departmental and/or organizational goals.
- Ability to perform duties within expected timeframes and standards of accuracy.
- Ability to communicate effectively while demonstrating civility and respect.
This is a Casual Relief/3% FTE position, with shiftwork, call, rotation, etc. The hourly rate is $20.02, with 11% in lieu of benefits and vacation.
