Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Catering Coordinator to join our team at UBC Food Services. The successful candidate will be responsible for promoting and selling Sage Catering services, planning and coordinating on-site catered events, supervising catering workers, and performing related administrative duties.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Meet with potential customers and existing customer base to introduce and sell Sage Catering services.
  2. Advise customers on appropriate menu options, sequence of service, and budget alternatives.
  3. Prepare catering contracts for clients using proprietary software.
  4. Order related rental equipment, submit staff requirements for each event, and prepare floor plans, table set-ups, and buffet layouts.
  5. Supervise and coordinate the workload of up to twenty employees, ensuring they meet Sage Catering customer service standards.
  6. Supervise and participate in on-site set-up, service, and tear down of events.
  7. Train catering workers and follow up on training to ensure an understanding of the material covered.
  8. Ensure the quality of service and product is up to department standards, taking action as needed.
  9. Suggest menu alternatives on an ongoing basis.
  10. Participate in related day-to-day office administrative duties, including answering telephones, record keeping, filing, and performing basic calculations.
  11. Promote Sage catering products, services, and specials via brochures, point-of-sale materials, website, and posters.
  12. Arrange for feedback from clients on events and follow up on customer complaints and concerns.
  13. Contact employees for coverage of last-minute vacancies of shifts.
  14. Monitor and ensure safety standards are adhered to at all times.
  15. Relieve Sage food service workers and office staff as required.
Requirements

The successful candidate will possess a high school graduation, completion of Food Service Management course, FoodSafe level 1 certificate, and a minimum four years of related experience. They will also demonstrate a commitment to enhancing their own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Serving It Right certification is required, and proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet software, and desktop publishing is essential.
