About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Registered Veterinary Technologist to join our team at the BC SPCA. As a key member of our veterinary team, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist veterinarians in all aspects of patient care, including examinations, laboratory tests, and medical procedures.
  • Conduct routine laboratory tests, such as blood counts and urinalyses, and perform other diagnostic procedures as needed.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by veterinarians, and monitor patient responses.
  • Provide direct communication to clients, educating them on animal care and treatment options.
  • Assist with humane euthanasia and other end-of-life care as needed.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment and facilities.
  • Assist with inventory management and ordering supplies as needed.
  • Participate in ongoing education and training to stay up-to-date on the latest veterinary techniques and technologies.

Requirements:

  • Successful completion of a veterinary technologist program accredited by the Canadian Veterinary Medicine Association (CVMA) and registration with the BC Veterinary Technologists Association (BCVTA).
  • A minimum of five (5) years' experience as an RVT or equivalent and demonstrated proficiency in all areas of RVT practice.
  • Experience in delivering high-quality customer service to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to multi-task and complete tasks/projects within defined timelines.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills along with a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Able to fulfill physical demands of the job which may include standing for long periods of time, walking, sitting, and lifting heavy objects and patients.
  • Understanding of the risks associated with working with animals and an ability to follow safety requirements and other precautions such as fear-free handling techniques.
  • Willingsness and no identified barriers to exposure to supplies commonly used in a hospital setting such as anesthetic gases, chemicals, drugs including controlled substances, and x-ray radiation within Canadian safety standards.
  • Experience in using common veterinary practice software. Experience with Cornerstone would be considered an asset.
  • Philosophical harmony with BC SPCA policies, programs, and protocols.
