Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Trade Policy Manager to join our team at the Government of Alberta. As a key member of our Trade Policy and Projects team, you will play a critical role in leading the development, integration, and execution of strategic projects and initiatives to support Alberta's trade capacity and growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of professionals to deliver initiatives related to key Alberta trade and export activities, including international missions and events, meetings and engagements with international officials and other stakeholders, grant programs, and policy levers for supporting Alberta businesses.
  • Work closely with team members, directors, senior leadership, cross-ministry network, and external organizations to ensure effective advice and execution on strategic policy issues and projects related to international trade.
  • Oversee the development and administration of strategic grants and programming with key trade ecosystem organizations and play a crucial role in policy direction and program development for trade-related grants such as the Alberta Export Expansion Program.
  • Represent the department in interdepartmental and cross-ministry work teams and lead engagement and initiatives with organizations outside of the Government of Alberta.
  • Manage multiple priorities and play a key role in leading complex projects and advising on how the department can respond to evolving trade challenges and opportunities.
Requirements
  • Extensive problem-solving, political acumen, systems thinking, decision-making, project management, relationship development, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage and develop staff as part of a collaborative, positive, agile, and supportive team environment.
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of current and emerging economic and political issues to provide research and policy advice.
