Job Summary and Responsibilities

As an Equipment Operator, you'll be responsible for operating and maintaining heavy, motorized equipment to unload and load ferrous materials. You'll work closely with the scale operator and office staff to minimize traffic congestion and ensure a smooth flow of materials in and out of the yard.

  • Must be mechanically inclined and able to troubleshoot and perform light mechanical repairs.
  • Loading and unloading of various ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
  • Observing and practicing all company safety rules and policies.
  • Operating heavy equipment in a safe and effective manner to minimize risk of injury, property damage, or loss of life.
  • Reporting any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage.
  • Excellent oral communication, good judgment, and reliability are essential.
  • Ability to operate equipment in tight spaces.
  • Punctual and available to work overtime on Saturdays as needed.

Requirements

  • High School or equivalent.
  • 2-3 years of recent experience in an operator position.
  • Ability to work in various temperatures.
  • Able to meet the physical demands of the position, including standing, walking, sitting, climbing, crawling, kneeling, bending, and moderate to heavy lifting and pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds throughout the day.
  • Willingsness and ability to work in variable weather conditions, including hot, dry summer conditions and cold, harsh winter conditions.
