Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as a Collection Systems Operator Apprentice at Halifax Water. As a key member of our wastewater collections team, you will be responsible for performing scheduled and emergency cleaning, repair, and maintenance of sanitary and stormwater sewers, pipes, pumping stations, and related infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate a variety of vehicles, equipment, and tools in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Perform scheduled and emergency cleaning, repair, and maintenance of sanitary and stormwater sewers, pipes, pumping stations, and related infrastructure.
  • Respond to flood, fuel spills, sewer odors, sewer backups, and customer complaints, investigating and resolving such issues.
  • Inspect wastewater and stormwater-related infrastructure.
  • Load and unload equipment and materials as required.
  • Perform general care, maintenance, and safe operation of assigned equipment and tools.
  • Order supplies and materials as required.
  • Provide written and verbal reports concerning daily work activities.
  • Work overtime for emergency call-outs as required.
Requirements
  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • A valid Class 5 Nova Scotia Driver's license.
  • Two years of experience working in a similar environment and with similar equipment and tools.
  • Ability to obtain certification through Nova Scotia Environment within 6 months of hire as an Operator-in-Training.
Working Conditions

This role requires working primarily outdoors in all weather conditions and in confined spaces. You must be able to safely access and egress confined spaces with safety gear and be capable of wearing respiratory equipment, depending on environmental conditions.
