Job Summary

This is a temporary full-time contract position at Camp Smitty, operated by Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa. The Senior Camp Counselor will play a leadership role in assisting in the development of exceptional camper experiences, program offerings with measurable outcomes, and strong role modeling relationships to campers and junior counselors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Development and Delivery
    • Support and actively participate in all camp activities.
    • Assist in the development and delivery of program offerings.
    • Support fellow counselors to deliver program effectively.
    • Be a positive role model for youth and junior staff.
    • Support and promote teamwork at Camp Smitty.
    • Report any concerns regarding staff to manager, communicate relevant information to manager.
    • Supervise campers appropriately throughout programming.
  • Training and Development
    • Complete staff training on BGC policy and procedure provided by Camp Manager.
    • Actively participate in staff meetings and staff evaluation.
    • Align programming with BGCO strategic direction.
  • Program Maintenance and Communication
    • Ensure program area is maintained and clean on a regular basis.
    • Communicate program needs and concerns to supervisors.
    • Develop engaging relationships with all campers.
Requirements
  • Currently in high school or post-secondary education.
  • Previous experience working with children and youth.
  • High Five certificate is an asset.
  • Completed police record check (vulnerable sector).
Work Environment

The work environment is active, requiring the ability to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
