The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Data System Abstractor to join our team at Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health. In this role, you will assist with data collection and management of the Nova Scotia Perinatal Follow-Up Program (PFUP) database.

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining accurate and complete data
  • Assisting in data retrieval and preparation of audits and reports
  • Ensuring work time is managed effectively and efficiently
  • Ensuring privacy and confidentiality of all processes, including data storage
  • Participating in departmental and national working group committees, as requested
  • Preparing charts for bi-weekly PFUP clinics
  • Entering PFUP data into the ORACLE database
  • Coordinating and providing ORACLE training to appropriate clinical staff
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A graduate degree in a health-related field or a related field
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Access, Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Ability to complete on-site training in the ORACLE database
  • Training and experience in abstracting and coding obstetrics and neonatology health records
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of Meditech
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and within the context of a healthcare team
  • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to multi-task
