Job Title: Mechanical Designer of Space Products

Job Summary:

MDA is seeking a skilled Mechanical Designer of Space Products to join our Satellite Systems team in Montreal. As a Mechanical Designer of Space Products, you will work with a multi-disciplinary engineering team to develop antennas or structures used on state-of-the-art satellites. Your primary responsibility will be to design custom space products for international customers, ensuring that the final product meets the specific needs of the customer and can survive the harsh conditions of the space environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design mechanical components for antennas, payloads, or space electronics units
  • Understand client requirements and propose concepts that meet those requirements
  • Select/design components according to constraints
  • Integrate concepts from electrical, material, structural, and thermal engineering disciplines into a 3D model
  • Develop/revise fabrication drawings, assembly, and parts lists
  • Evaluate system costs and establish schedules
  • Monitor component suppliers' activities
  • Support integration and testing of components into higher-level assemblies (during design and manufacturing phases)
  • Develop mass budgets
  • Present concepts to the customer

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or other equivalent
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical design
  • Good communication skills
  • Knowledge of MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Excel

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual (English/French)
  • Experience in the field of mechanical design
  • Knowledge of geometric tolerancing, drawing standards
  • Knowledge of CAD design (NX, Creo, or Catia)
  • Knowledge of the space industry

Security Clearance: Successful candidates must obtain and hold security clearance at the reliability status level and pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP) and ITAR.
