Medical Laboratory Assistant

About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our team in Ottawa, Ontario. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant, you will be responsible for processing laboratory specimens and/or entering requisitions and/or results accurately and in a timely manner. Your contributions will make a difference and will greatly impact the downstream solutions and treatment critical to saving someone's life.
Key Responsibilities:
- Follow established protocol(s) in Specimen Processing
- Ensure that all samples are properly identified, data entered, and labeled
- Follow established protocol(s) for the handling of unsuitable samples
- Ensure all client inquiries and problems are handled in a courteous and professional manner
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Completion of secondary-school level education and a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant training program
- Experience providing exceptional, professional customer-focused service in a demanding and frequently changing environment
- Demonstrated ability to self-manage, prioritize, and collaborate in a team-oriented, high-volume, time-sensitive environment
- Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) at an intermediate level
- Knowledge of laboratory procedures and ability to apply that knowledge in troubleshooting issues and providing recommendations for solutions
Working Conditions:
- Normal office environment
- Medical laboratory environment
- Required walking with repetitive motions
- May sit or stand for prolonged periods of time with extensive computer use
- Required to lift a maximum of 30 pounds as required
- Exposed to biohazardous substances, temperature differences, and noise variances
