At Spark Power Corp, we are seeking a highly skilled Senior Protection Specialist to join our team in Alberta. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing programming, testing, and verification of protection and control devices in the field. Your primary role will involve testing, commissioning, or maintaining power distribution equipment, requiring you to interface with clients and construction crews, with approximately 70-80% of your time spent traveling.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Align with safety protocols to protect yourself and team members.
  • Understand, plan, and utilize utility and industry-standard lockout procedures.
  • Read and interpret electrical AC and DC schematics, AC three-line, logic diagrams, and SLDs.
  • Inspect, test, operate, and troubleshoot AC and DC control and protection wiring schematics.
  • Perform field testing, verification, and programming of various IEDs from manufacturers such as SEL, GE Multilin, GEC Alstom, Siemens, Square D, and ABB.
  • Maintain or commission power distribution equipment, including power transformers, circuit breakers, HV switches, and instrument transformers.
  • Familiarize yourself with industry-specific codes and standards (AESO, AUEC, IEEE, and NETA).
  • Ability and willingness to travel 70-80% of the time for out-of-town commissioning or maintenance projects.
  • Report, record, compute, and process electrical test information in accordance with accepted standard practices.
  • Coordinate day-to-day functions on a job-by-job basis, including compliance with all health and safety standards and regulations, availability of necessary resources, resolving conflicts, and timely and accurate submission of paperwork.

Requirements:

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in P&C
  • 2-year Electrical Engineering Technology diploma (from NAIT or SAIT) or Bachelor of Electrical Engineering Degree
  • Registered or eligible to register with ASET or APEGA
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License
  • Excellent communication and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to provide technical leadership
