Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Research and Development Engineer to join our team in Vancouver. As a key member of our R&D group, you will be responsible for developing innovative algorithms, crafting artist-friendly user interfaces, and optimizing data management processes to support our visual effects production.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement cutting-edge algorithms and tools to support our visual effects production
  • Craft intuitive user interfaces to facilitate artist collaboration and productivity
  • Optimize data management processes to ensure seamless workflow and data integrity
  • Collaborate with engineers and artists across our studios to identify and address technical challenges
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in machine learning, computer vision, and other relevant technologies

Requirements:

  • Proficiency in C++ and Python on Linux
  • Knowledge of visual effects principles and software applications (Maya, Houdini, Katana, Mari)
  • Experience with machine learning techniques and toolsets
  • Working knowledge of standard data formats (OpenEXR, OpenVDB, Alembic, USD)
  • Enthusiasm for designing artist-friendly interfaces using GUI toolkits (Qt, PySide, QML)
  • Appreciation of software development principles (object-oriented design, test-driven development, source code management)
  • Extensive experience developing in at least one of the above-listed niches
  • Experience leading and mentoring teams and individuals
  • BS and/or advanced degree in computer science or related field, or similar experience
  • Typically 10+ years of professional software development and/or VFX production experience
