Qualifications and Requirements

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Child and Youth Outreach Counsellor to join our team at Island Health. The successful candidate will possess a Baccalaureate Degree in a health-related discipline and be eligible for registration with the appropriate Health Regulatory College and/or licensing body.

Key qualifications include:

  • Two years' recent experience in crisis intervention and risk assessment, with a strong understanding of mental health and substance use issues.
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation, such as the Mental Health Act, Child Protection legislation, and Infants Act.
  • Valid BC Drivers' License.
Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Providing crisis intervention and risk assessment services to children and youth.
  • Developing and implementing individualized treatment plans.
  • Collaborating with other disciplines as part of a collaborative team.
  • Providing education and support to families and caregivers.
Skills and Abilities

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to organize, coordinate, and prioritize own work.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in partnership with other disciplines.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
