Automotive Control Systems Specialist

Job Summary
Westport Fuel Systems Inc. is seeking a skilled Mechatronics Engineer to join our team in Calgary, Alberta. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for developing tools and software that support the use and manufacture of automotive engine control systems in the natural gas vehicles marketplace.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and maintain software, electronics, and fixturing for end-of-line test equipment and other manufacturing infrastructure.
- Assist with testing and documentation tasks to support the validation of Engine Control Units.
- Develop and maintain embedded software using C and assembly for ARM Cotex M0, M4, and PowerPC based microcontrollers.
- Develop and maintain PC-based software utilities using C#.
- Work with Altium Designer to perform schematic capture and PCB design for internal testing and manufacturing support equipment.
- Perform basic electrical hands-on work, including SMT soldering, wiring, and circuit troubleshooting.
- Bring new electrical designs up and commission them.
- Use common lab tools, such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, function generators, and terminal crimping tools.
Health and Safety Responsibilities
- Promote Westport's health and safety culture by following all environmental and health and safety procedures.
- Report unsafe conditions, behaviors, and accidents.
- Cooperate with the Joint Health and Safety Committee and safety representative.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or computer engineering, computer science, or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 to 3 years of related industry experience.
- Experience in PC programming in C-Sharp is ideal, but candidates with experience in Java, C++, VB, or similar languages will be considered.
- Knowledge of electronics design fundamentals and the ability to read and understand schematics for preexisting designs.
- Familiarity with common lab tools, such as oscilloscopes, function generators, and SMT assembly tools and procedures.
- Proficiency in mechanical design using SolidWorks or a similar MCAD package is desirable.
- Automotive knowledge, including combustion, emissions control, in-vehicle communication, and on-board diagnostic systems, is an asset.
- Experience in a university design team, such as BAJA or Formula SAE, is an asset.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate well within a team and report to partners and customers.
Compensation
This role offers a competitive compensation and benefits program, including a salary within our hiring range of $65,000 to $68,000, dependent on numerous factors, including job location, skills, and experience.
