About the Role

The Ontario Ministry of Finance is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Auditor to join our team. As a Senior Auditor, you will play a key role in ensuring compliance with tax legislation and providing technical guidance to other auditors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct large and complex field audits to ensure compliance with tax legislation
  • Research clients and draft audit plans to identify areas of potential non-compliance
  • Provide interpretative guidance on tax legislation and policy to taxpayers and their representatives
  • Identify areas of potential non-compliance and educate clients on future compliance
  • Discuss audit findings with manager, taxpayers, and their representatives
  • Provide team leadership, technical guidance, and training to other audit staff
  • Prepare reports and working papers to document audit findings
Requirements
  • Successful completion of one of the following is required:
  • Levels 1, 2, 3, and 4 of the CGA Program
  • All courses in the CMA Pre-Professional Program
  • A recognized university degree or college diploma, including courses in Introductory Financial Accounting, Intermediate Financial Accounting, Auditing, Taxation, and either Cost Accounting or Management Accounting
Technical Knowledge

You have demonstrated knowledge of accounting theories, principles, practices, auditing techniques, and standards, including computer-assisted auditing techniques (CAAT), and financial analysis within a wide variety of accounting and business systems. You can prepare documentation for processing assessments and refunds. You have demonstrated the ability to interpret and apply provincial and federal tax legislation, related policies and procedures, inter-jurisdictional agreements, ministry guidelines, and administrative practices, and recent tax rulings, in order to provide information to taxpayers, conduct large and complex audits, and provide technical guidance to other auditors.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

You have effective communication and interpersonal skills to provide assistance to taxpayers and/or their representatives, encourage and promote voluntary compliance, educate taxpayers in the requirements of the legislation, and provide alternatives for taxpayers to fulfill their responsibilities. You have effective oral and written communication skills to discuss technical aspects of tax legislation, and accounting and auditing requirements, conduct effective interviews, and prepare audit documents.

Judgement, Research, and Analytical Skills

You have effective research and analytical skills to perform detailed and complex audits, analyze complex financial documents and related information, evaluate results, and resolve compliance problems. You can use judgement to make decisions and recommendations impacting taxpayers' and employers' fiscal operations and tax liabilities.
