About the Role

This position is responsible for operating a propane or diesel gas counterbalanced-type forklift and/or reach truck, inspecting prepared loads for accuracy and completeness, and ensuring the forklift and its equipment meet RONA standards and applicable laws.

You will also be unloading trucks, storing products in storage areas, handling products when required, and providing customer service according to SMART principles for in-store pickup.

Additionally, you will perform and participate in department maintenance, work in accordance with company policies and procedures on health and safety and loss prevention, and help prepare orders and load trucks.

In this role, you will assemble orders, including identifying products from transfer requests, locating material, counting quantity, building and securing loads, and operating the forklift infrequently to prepare transfers, transport material, load and unload vehicles.

You will complete the forklift inspection form, assist with general warehouse and yard maintenance, remove debris and straighten lifts of material, and remove returned material from the vehicle and return it to stock as directed.

Qualifications and Skills

To be successful in this role, you must have a Certificate for driving forklifts and a driver's licence, at least 3 years of experience, and the ability to perform continuous physical work, including lifting weights of up to 23 kilograms (50 pounds).

You should also be able to work outdoors 80 to 100% of the time and be tolerant to extremes in temperature, inclement weather, dust, and intense noise. Manual skills to operate a forklift are essential, as well as a RONA forklift license, and the ability to identify different species and grades of material.

A good understanding of oral communication skills, a cooperative approach, and team player mentality are also necessary. Ability to prioritize and respond to changing situations appropriately, good organizational skills, detail-oriented when processing paperwork and counting stock, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently are also important.
