Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Mental Health Rehabilitation Specialist to join our team at Island Health. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with mental disorders to achieve their rehabilitation goals.

About the Role

This is a challenging yet rewarding position that requires a unique blend of education, experience, and interpersonal skills. You will work closely with clients to develop and implement individualized plans, promoting their independence and well-being.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach life skills and provide support to individuals with mental health conditions
  • Develop and maintain rapport with clients to foster trust and understanding
  • Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team to achieve shared goals
  • Employ aggressive behaviour management techniques as needed
  • Exercise sound judgement in accordance with program philosophy when supervisors are unavailable
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must possess a strong educational background, supplemented by relevant post-secondary courses in mental illness. A minimum of two years recent related experience working with individuals with mental disorders is also required. Additionally, you must hold a valid BC Driver's Licence and be able to obtain a Class 4 Driver's License if required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Certificates in CPR and Food Safe
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Act as it applies to client rights and staff obligations
  • Understanding of psychosocial rehabilitation principles and a client-centered approach
