The Manitoba Government is seeking a highly skilled Corporate Commercial Lawyer to join our team. As a key member of our Corporate Commercial and Information Technology Section, you will provide legal advice and assistance on general corporate and commercial matters, including participating in strategic discussions with clients, leading or participating in negotiations with third parties, and drafting agreements and other documents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide legal advice and assistance on general corporate and commercial matters
  • Participate in strategic discussions with clients
  • Lead or participate in negotiations with third parties
  • Draft agreements and other documents
  • Conduct legal research and analysis of legal problems
  • Prepare legal opinions
Requirements
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Member (in good standing) or eligible for immediate membership with The Law Society of Manitoba
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search
  • Satisfactory Child Abuse and Adult Abuse Registry Checks
  • Satisfactory Enhanced Security Screening
  • The ability and willingness to travel, as required
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) or Juris Doctor (J.D) degree
  • Experience practicing corporate commercial law in a common law jurisdiction
  • Experience leading / participating in negotiations
  • Ability to develop strategy, provide legal advice and make recommendations
  • Excellent analytical skills, including the ability to recognize and assess legal implications and policy options
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to work in a high pressure and time sensitive environment to meet conflicting deadlines
  • Superior written communication skills, including experience drafting agreements and legal opinions
  • Strong verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain strong and positive working relationships, including with co-workers, clients and external interests
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of or exposure to Aboriginal Law or Indigenous laws
  • Experience advising clients in the public sector
  • Experience with construction law and financial transactions
