Job Title: Crown Counsel

Are you a skilled lawyer looking for a challenging and engaging role in the public sector? We are seeking a Crown Counsel to join our Corporate Commercial and Information Technology Section at the Legal Services Branch (LSB) of the Manitoba Government.

About the Role

As a Crown Counsel, you will provide high-quality legal services to government departments, agencies, boards, commissions, and corporations. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Participating in strategic discussions with clients
  • Leading or participating in negotiations with third parties
  • Drafting agreements and other documents, and providing support in contract interpretation and administration
  • Conducting legal research and analysis of legal problems
  • Preparing legal opinions
  • Providing legal advice and assistance on general corporate and commercial matters
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) or Juris Doctor (J.D) degree
  • Experience practicing corporate commercial law in a common law jurisdiction
  • Experience leading or participating in negotiations
  • Ability to develop strategy, provide legal advice, and make recommendations
  • Excellent analytical skills, including the ability to recognize and assess legal implications and policy options
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to work in a high-pressure and time-sensitive environment
  • Superior written communication skills, including experience drafting agreements and legal opinions
  • Strong verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain strong and positive working relationships
Preferred Qualifications

We are looking for candidates with:

  • Knowledge of or exposure to Aboriginal Law or Indigenous laws
  • Experience advising clients in the public sector
  • Experience with construction law and financial transactions
