About the Role

Holt Renfrew is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Assistant Buyer to join our team. As a key member of our buying team, you will play a critical role in defining the luxury lifestyle shopping experience for our customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor sales and margin performance, interpreting variances against budget and forecast to inform business decisions.
  • Assist in the creation and tracking of purchase orders, ensuring accuracy and compliance with our terms of agreement.
  • Conduct purchase order follow-up with vendors, resolving distribution issues and ensuring timely delivery of merchandise.
  • Support in the preparation of forecasts, analyzing sales trends and making recommendations to drive business growth.
  • Participate in monthly and seasonal markdown sessions, working closely with buyers and planners to optimize inventory levels and drive sales.
  • Monitor stock levels, initiating recommendations for repeat orders and consolidations to maximize efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Assist in the preparation of pre-market analysis, providing insights and recommendations to inform buying decisions.
  • Work with buyers and planners to prepare seasonal business reviews, analyzing sales performance and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Monitor buying office and sample inventory, ensuring accurate tracking and timely disposal of excess merchandise.
  • Provide sales analysis in-season, recommending repeats, consolidations, and returns to drive business growth.
  • Complete and revise store allocations for merchandise on order, ensuring accurate and timely delivery to our stores.
  • Contribute to the establishment and maintenance of strong relationships with vendors and internal departments, driving collaboration and achieving business objectives.
  • Follow up with stores using appropriate frequency and communication channels, consolidations, repeats, and returns, as well as product and merchandise information.
  • Initiate and coordinate in-store product knowledge sessions and contests with vendors and stores, driving sales and customer engagement.
  • Prepare seasonal store product knowledge and road tour information, managing with the buyer to ensure accurate and timely delivery.
  • Track line budget performance and activity, including plans and actuals, to inform business decisions.
  • Coordinate all required activities for trunk shows, special events, and personal appearances with the buyer and vendor, ensuring seamless execution and maximum impact.
  • Responsible for all sample inventory from ordering to return of merchandise, ensuring accurate tracking and timely disposal of excess merchandise.
  • Prepare presentations, media kits, event materials, and other collateral as required, ensuring high-quality and timely delivery.
  • Comply with all Health & Safety policies and requirements, ensuring a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Ensure compliance with privacy policies, regulations, and cyber security measures, protecting sensitive information and maintaining confidentiality.
Requirements
  • Post-secondary degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.
  • 1-2 years of post-university work experience.
  • Sound knowledge of purchasing principles and practices/retail math.
  • Previous experience in analysis an asset, including use of system-based tools.
  • Demonstrated leadership and influencing skills, with the ability to get things done.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, a team player who is able to act as both a leader and an individual contributor as required.
  • Confident and effective communication (written & verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Is adaptable and comfortable with ambiguity and change.
  • Highly service-oriented with exceptional organizational and follow-up skills.
  • Passionate about fashion and luxury retailing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
