Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Medical Laboratory Technology Specialist to join our team at Georgian College. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the Medical Laboratory Assistant and Technology programs, ensuring the design, maintenance, repair, inventory control, and replacement of equipment and resources.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Medical Laboratory Assistant and Technology programs by ensuring the appropriate design, maintenance, repair, inventory control, and replacement of equipment and resources.
  • Advise and assist Faculty and students through demonstration and orientation of technical information and processes, technical reports, applied research, and the set-up and use of a variety of highly specialized equipment.
  • Represent Health, Wellness and Sciences and conduct technical tours and provide information about the department and its equipment for business partners, potential partners, and potential students.
  • Ensure all lab safety standards are being followed and monitor and give technical support to student or part-time staff as required.
  • Support Academic Programs by assisting students with technical reports, applied research, and in setting up and performing labs, demonstrating and orienting students to the operation of existing and new equipment and proper work procedures, and working closely with students on course-related technical questions and assignments when faculty is not available.
  • Design, develop, and deliver equipment demonstrations for labs and tour groups, and orienting and demonstrating to new faculty the use and operation of labs, lab equipment, and experiments.
  • Support program and department goals and attend required meetings, and provide student placement opportunity in the lab for first- and second-year students, including supervision and feedback for faculty and student.
  • Monitor field placements via workplace visits and/or phone consultation with employer and student, and gather information and refer issue to coordinator to resolve.

Qualifications:

  • Successfully completed at least a 3-year Advanced Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology and registration with CMLTO.
  • At least 5 years of experience with electrocardiograms, venipuncture, capillary specimen collection and handling, urinalysis, serology tests (occult blood, pregnancy, rapid, RSV, Flu A&B, rapid Strep, etc.).
  • Knowledge of PHAC and any other applicable federal or provincial legislation, regulatory and accreditation requirements (CMLTO, CSMLS, MLPAO & Equal – Accreditation Canada), and applicable biosafety and biosecurity policies, standards, and practices appropriate to the risk associated with the controlled activities being conducted.
