The Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a Food Service Worker to join our team in the patient and retail food service setting. As a Food Service Worker, you will work under the supervision of the Manager/Food Service Supervisor and be responsible for preparing and serving meals and supplies to patients, residents, veterans, staff, families, and customers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and serve patient meals, including assembling, portioning, and serving meals, as well as preparing nourishments, special feedings, and beverages.
- Deliver and distribute selective menus and patient meals, as well as collect soiled patient trays.
- Participate in receiving and storing supplies, including food and non-food items, using First In First Out (FIFO) procedures.
- Receive and interpret patient diet/meal orders, confirm patient meal requirements, and maintain inventory management.
- Generate and print menus, reports, tallies, and labels, as well as print Meditech/STAR reports and compare to CBORD/Vision reports.
- Clean and sanitize dishes, utensils, equipment, and work areas, maintain basic work area safety and sanitation, and adhere to safe food handling and hygiene procedures.
About You:
- You must have a Grade 12/GED or equivalent, or demonstrated skills and/or relevant work experience, which must be clearly stated in your cover letter and resume.
- Demonstrated competency in English and basic Math is required.
- Restaurant experience and customer service skills are considered assets.
- You must be able to work as part of a team to provide services and achieve departmental and/or organizational goals.
- You must be able to perform duties within expected timeframes and standards of accuracy.
- You must be able to communicate effectively while demonstrating civility and respect.
- Competencies in other languages, particularly French, are an asset.
- Frequent physical demands include extensive standing and walking, bending, lifting (maximum of 35-40lbs), pulling, and pushing, as well as transferring/transporting equipment.
Hours:
- This is a permanent part-time position with 90% FTE and 67.5 hours bi-weekly.
Compensation and Incentives:
$20.02 hourly
