Job Title: Part-time Technologist

Job Summary:

The Part-time Technologist will provide technical expertise and support to the faculty and students in the Applied Museum Studies program at Algonquin College. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up and maintaining lab equipment, conducting skills demonstrations, and providing individualized assistance to students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support to faculty members and students in the Applied Museum Studies program
  • Set up and maintain lab equipment, including selecting, preparing, and assembling the proper apparatus, materials, and specimens/samples for all lab sessions
  • Conduct skills demonstrations and provide individualized assistance to students
  • Supervise open labs for students and ensure safe working habits
  • Maintain and order inventory of materials and equipment, and ensure safe storage of materials

Requirements:

  • Three (3) year diploma/degree in Museum Studies, Conservation, Exhibit Preparation, Fine Arts, or equivalent
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in the cultural/movable Heritage sector, and/or in a lab environment related to the position
  • Hands-on experience with lab setup, modification, and teardown
  • Proficiency in maintaining, using, and supervising a variety of general-purpose and specialized tools, instruments, and equipment
  • Knowledge of safe storage and handling of chemical substances, fluids, and compressed gases
  • Strong understanding of lab safety protocols and procedures

Working Conditions:

The Part-time Technologist will work in a lab environment and will be required to lift, carry, and move equipment and materials as needed. The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment and will be expected to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
