Research Technician-Mechanic, Plant Science Specialist

Job Summary:

The University of Saskatchewan is seeking a skilled mechanic to maintain and repair a wide range of agricultural research equipment and vehicles. The successful candidate will work under minimal supervision and collaborate with faculty, staff, and external suppliers to ensure the efficient operation of the equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and repair agricultural research equipment, including tractors, seed drills, sprayers, and combines
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as oil changes and tire rotations
  • Diagnose and repair complex mechanical issues with equipment
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop and implement maintenance schedules
  • Keep accurate records of equipment maintenance and repairs
  • Operate farm equipment and be familiar with western Canadian agricultural practices

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent
  • Journeyman's certificate as an Automotive Service Technician or Heavy Duty Mechanic
  • Minimum 5 years of equivalent training and experience
  • Valid Saskatchewan driver's license with an acceptable driving record
  • WHMIS certification, CPR/First Aid, and Transportation of Dangerous Goods training

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the safe operation of field equipment
  • Basic knowledge of western Canadian farming practices and agricultural research techniques
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English
