We are seeking a Medical Laboratory Technologist I Core Lab Specialist to join our team at the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA).
About the RoleThis is an exciting opportunity for a Medical Laboratory Technologist I Core Lab Specialist to provide laboratory testing services in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality patient care.
Duties and Responsibilities- Obtain laboratory samples from patients as required, following established procedures and protocols.
- Perform laboratory procedures and analyze results according to established policies and guidelines.
- Prepare various solutions, reagents, standards, and controls for use in analysis, adhering to Standard Operating Procedures.
- Respond to requests and inquiries for test results through various methods, as required by standard operating procedures.
- Communicate test results to designated parties, including members of other healthcare teams, using established procedures.
- Maintain routine instrument calibration, setup, and maintenance, identifying and reporting equipment malfunctions according to Diagnostic Accreditation Program (DAP) practices.
- Assist in evaluating technical procedures and contribute to the development and maintenance of policy procedures for assigned work areas.
- Participate in departmental training and orientation programs by demonstrating established laboratory procedures to new employees and students, as per laboratory guidelines.
- Support information management activities, such as workload statistics, by gathering information, completing analysis, and recording data.
- Maintain inventory levels of supplies by identifying depleting stock, notifying applicable personnel, and completing requisitions and forwarding them for approval and ordering.
- Ensure a clean and safe work environment according to established policies and procedures.
To be considered for this role, you must possess:
- Certification with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).
- One year of recent related experience in the designated discipline within the last six years, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Demonstrated recent working knowledge of the assigned section or sections.
- Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory procedures and technical competence to perform tests used in the assigned section of the laboratory, including quality control and safety.
- BASIC awareness of research process.
- Interpersonal skills, including effective verbal and written communication.
- Able to organize and prioritize workload effectively.
- Able to work independently and collaborate with others as needed.
- Able to work under pressure in a constantly changing environment.
- BASIC knowledge of other healthcare disciplines and their roles in client care using point-of-care instrumentation.
- Able to operate related equipment and software, including techniques appropriate to the designated area of the laboratory.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Commitment to developing knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments found in foundational documents, including Truth & Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan, and Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study.
The salary for this role is approximately $65,000 - $85,000 annually, depending on experience. As a PHSA employee, you can expect a comprehensive benefits package, including a municipal pension plan, psychological health and safety programs, and holistic wellness resources.
