About the Role
Arup is seeking a highly skilled Senior Design Engineer to join our Rail Electrification team in Bangalore. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading the design and delivery of traction power systems for our clients in India and the UK.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the production and checking of traction power supply (TPS), EHV/HV/MV distribution, and earthing and bonding design at all stages of design.
- Produce preliminary and detailed design, including power supply and distribution equipment layout plans, single-line diagrams, equipment sizing, installation details, protection and control, schematics, bills of quantity, wiring and cable plans.
- Perform AC and DC traction power simulation studies, including power factor, load flow, stability, short circuit, and stray current studies.
- Design substation systems, including TSS/RSS/feeding stations/midpoint sectioning, and perform power system modeling using ETAP software.
- Develop complex traction simulation studies, including insulation coordination, di-electric coordination studies, and earthing and bonding studies.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver technically excellent rail projects and bids.
Requirements
- Minimum 10 years of experience in traction power design, with at least 8 years in a lead design engineer role.
- Appropriate university engineering degree and associate membership or chartership of IET or equivalent.
- Experience in leading design teams, construction methods, and installation, vendor approvals, and design safety discussions.
- Strong technical demonstration skills and ability to lead and produce complete traction power system package deliverables.
- Good knowledge of OLE/OCS, 3rd rail, railway infrastructure, and systems.
- Experience in multi-disciplinary design integration, identifying interface issues, and preparing data sheets and bills of quantities.
- Ability to mentor junior engineers and manage a small team of people.
