Job Summary:

The Animal Care Attendant is a key member of our team at West Edmonton Mall, responsible for ensuring the health and well-being of our marine life animals. This role requires a passion for animal care and a commitment to providing exceptional customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist our Marine Life staff with animal presentations, cleaning and maintenance of exhibits, and husbandry tasks.
  • Apply knowledge of natural history, animal husbandry, and enrichment practices to ensure the health and well-being of our animals.
  • Provide exceptional customer service during shows and assist with photo sessions.
  • Assist with the care of animal habitats, nutrition, and diets, water quality, and animal training.
  • Maintain, clean, and perform general upkeep of live exhibits, cages, tanks, and displays.
  • Perform general maintenance of quarantine, holding, and other back-of-house service areas.
  • Ensure touch pools are presentable and ready for the day.
  • Ensure food-prep is ready and on time for all Marine Life animals and feeding of exhibit and non-exhibit animals.
  • Perform opening and closing duties.
  • Supervise touch pools when Sea Life Caverns is open and answer guest questions.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and overall appearance of all Marine Life Facilities.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Possess a keen interest in aquatic life with a passion for animals and a desire to continue learning about Marine Life.
  • Experience working with reptiles, fish, and other amphibians is an asset.
  • Degree or relevant biological field or previous experience in an animal-related field is an asset.
  • Experience with public speaking and performing is an asset.
  • An individual that is outgoing, self-motivated, and a team player.
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs.

Terms of Employment:

  • This is a full-time position that requires flexible availability including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must possess a Class 5 driver's license and be able to provide a clean 3-year driver's abstract.
  • Must be able to pass a basic security clearance.
