About the Opportunity

The Nutrition and Food Services team at Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a Food Service Assistant to join our team. This role is responsible for preparing and serving meals to patients, staff, and visitors. The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced environment, interacting with patients and staff to provide excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Meal Selections: Answer patient phone calls, enter meal selections on a computer, and visit patients to take meal orders.
  • Product/Food Preparation/Assembly and Service: Assemble, portion, and serve patient and visitor meals, as well as prepare nourishments and special feedings.
  • Delivery and Collection: Deliver and distribute selective menus and patient meals, collect soiled patient trays, and deliver nourishments and supplies.
Requirements
  • Grade 12/GED or equivalent.
  • Restaurant experience and customer service skills are considered assets.
  • Ability to work as part of a team to provide services and achieve departmental and/or organizational goals.
  • Ability to perform duties within expected timeframes and standards of accuracy.
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will work in a patient and retail food service setting, with frequent physical demands including extensive standing and walking, bending, lifting, and transferring/transporting equipment.

Compensation and Incentives

$19.26-$20.02 hourly.
