Job Description

AtkinsRéalis is seeking an experienced Indigenous Engagement and Knowledge Specialist to join our Environmental Permitting and Management team in Ontario. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in leading consultation and engagement activities with Indigenous communities, working closely with our Environmental specialists to deliver innovative projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and coordinate Indigenous, stakeholder, and regulatory engagement programs, including communication materials, workshops, and open houses.
  • Review Indigenous Knowledge studies and incorporate information into environmental impact assessments.
  • Support the assessment of project impacts on Indigenous and Treaty Rights and Interests.
  • Develop and maintain project/task schedules and budgets for engagement, and monitor project progress.
  • Support business development efforts, including client identification, proposal writing, and client-facing activities.

Requirements:

  • Indigenous Traditional Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous worldview.
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Planning, Geography, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Biology, Social Science, or similar.
  • 10+ years relevant experience working on Environmental programs with First Nations and Indigenous communities, Environmental/Impact Assessments.
  • Lived experience is a strong asset.
  • Understanding of provincial, federal, and territorial EA/IA processes.
  • Understanding and awareness of Indigenous laws with a focus on Indigenous Knowledge systems.
  • Experience facilitating workshops and open houses for Indigenous participants.
  • Experience delivering cultural awareness training for internal staff.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, and French language skills are considered an asset.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize workload to manage multiple assignments at one time.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Willing to travel.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • OCAP certification/knowledge is an asset.
