Job Summary

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of software developers and testers to deliver high-quality software solutions.
  • Develop and present project status reports to stakeholders, highlighting accomplishments, challenges, and risks.
  • Drive automation initiatives and champion quality assurance practices to enhance product reliability.
  • Organize team-building events, workshops, and knowledge-sharing sessions to foster team cohesion and professional growth.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to team members, ensuring best practices are followed and technical challenges are effectively addressed.
  • Uphold and promote Telesat's culture, values, and standards within the team, creating an inclusive and positive working environment.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of management experience in a software development environment with an embedded software focus.
  • Proven leadership skills with a track record of building and managing successful software development teams.
  • Collaborative team-player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with management, engineering teams, and partners/suppliers.
  • Experience in dealing with business considerations and practical limitations related to system design and implementation.
  • Technical expertise in software engineering practices, including design, development, and testing.
  • Experience working with international and geographically dispersed teams.
  • Familiarity with automation practices and quality assurance methods.
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
Decision Making
  • This role will have significant impact on the On-Board Payload Software development, with responsibilities including talent acquisition, team management, and fostering a constructive work atmosphere.
  • The successful candidate will need to make recommendations and decisions based on applicable experience.
Supervision Exercises
  • This position has direct reports working in development and test roles.
