Heavy Equipment Mechanic Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic Specialist to join our team at the Department of Public Works in Nova Scotia. As a key member of our Fleet Services Division, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our fleet.
Job DescriptionThis is a full-time, year-round position responsible for maintaining and repairing a wide range of heavy equipment, including utility tractors, rubber tire loaders, graders, and tandem trucks. You will be working independently, with minimal supervision, to diagnose and resolve equipment issues, perform routine maintenance, and conduct repairs as needed.
Your primary focus will be on maintaining the safety and reliability of our fleet, which includes operating in various weather conditions and environments. You must be able to lift, carry, and move equipment safely, and work effectively in a mechanical repair environment.
Required Skills and QualificationsTo succeed in this role, you will need:
- A provincial certificate of qualification in the truck and transport trade
- Five (5) years of diversified mechanical experience, preferably in heavy equipment repair
- A valid Nova Scotia driver's license with air brakes certification
- Knowledge of computer-controlled engine diagnostic technology, electrical schematics, and safety inspections
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

SalaryThe salary for this position is $31.20 per hour, based on the collective agreement between the Government of Nova Scotia and CUPE Local 1867. With a full-time schedule, you can expect an annual salary of approximately $64,800.
