We are seeking an Indigenous Child Wellbeing Specialist to join our team at Dnaagdawenmag Binnoojiiyag Child & Family Services. This role plays a vital part in fostering positive outcomes for children, youth, and families who become involved in the child welfare system.

About the Role:
  • This position specializes in risk assessment, intervention, and prevention from a holistic and inclusive lens.
  • The successful candidate will strive to help families access resources and be empowered to overcome challenging situations.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess allegations of child abuse and/or neglect with cultural competence and sensitivity.
  • Collaborate with families, community members, and other sources to gather insights into family dynamics, strengths, challenges, and protective factors.
  • Engage families in the assessment process and service planning, demonstrating respect for their input and recognizing strengths while addressing areas of concern.
  • Identify immediate and long-term risks, such as abuse, neglect, substance abuse, domestic violence, mental health issues, and environmental factors that may impact a child's well-being.
  • Develop service plans in collaboration with families and communities to mitigate immediate risks.
  • Maximize participation of internal and external service providers in the development and review of the service plan.
  • Conduct investigations in ongoing child protection cases where there are new allegations of harm.
  • Continuously monitor and reassess the level of risk as circumstances evolve, adjusting intervention strategies and support plans accordingly.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Social Work Degree or BSW equivalency with relevant experience working with children, youths, and families.
  • Candidates with extensive experience in Child Welfare or Indigenous Child Wellbeing, in a similar position, and willing to obtain any required additional qualifications are preferred.
