About the Role

The Mental Health Social Worker is a key member of our multidisciplinary team, responsible for providing exceptional patient care and support to individuals with serious mental illness. As a Mental Health Social Worker, you will work collaboratively with our team to assess, treat, and counsel clients, providing short-term therapy and support to help them achieve their goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and develop treatment plans for clients with serious mental illness, working closely with our multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive care.
  • Provide short-term counseling and therapy to clients, using evidence-based modalities such as Brief Solution Focused Model, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.
  • Document client assessments, treatment plans, and progress, ensuring accurate and timely documentation.
  • Liaise with team members, hospital staff, and community agencies to ensure seamless care and support for clients.
  • Develop and lead client groups, using your expertise in group dynamics and facilitation to create a supportive and engaging environment.
  • Collect and report statistical data, contributing to our ongoing quality improvement efforts.
  • Participate in committee work and other duties as required, demonstrating your commitment to our team and our patients.

Qualifications

  • Masters in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited program.
  • Three to five years of experience working with seriously mentally ill clients, with a strong understanding of mental health disorders and treatment modalities.
  • Registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW).
  • Advanced counseling and assessment skills, with experience in Brief Solution Focused Model, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in an interprofessional team environment.
  • Regular attendance and a commitment to our organizational core competencies.
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Course (CPI) or equivalent.
  • Ability to de-escalate crisis situations and provide support to clients in distress.
  • Good working knowledge of Social Assistance forms and programs.
  • Understanding of the Mental Health Act and Mental Health Disorders.
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem assessment skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service and teamwork.
  • Demonstrated individual leadership skills.
  • Commitment to providing an exceptional experience for staff and clients within a challenging and exciting healthcare environment.
