About the Role

The Mechanic position at Parker Drilling is a critical role that requires a high level of technical expertise and mechanical knowledge. As a Mechanic, you will be responsible for performing all tasks and duties of a mechanical discipline, including installing and maintaining engines, hydraulic motors, pumps, compressors, and miscellaneous mechanical devices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on mechanical equipment, including lubrication and service of mechanical equipment as specified on lubrication schedules.
  • Repair or replace defective or worn parts, and adjust or regulate functional parts of machinery, devices, and control instruments.
  • Troubleshoot and analyze mechanical malfunctions and failures, and read and analyze mechanical drawings, P&IDs, schematics, and equipment operating and maintenance manuals.
  • Enter maintenance and repair data into the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), and create job requests and work orders as required.
  • Coordinate with Rig Superintendent/Maintenance Lead on the maintenance, repair, and refurbishment of equipment, and foresee potential equipment malfunctions or failures and perform required repairs, adjustments, or modifications to resolve the problem.
  • Respond to emergencies as requested, and coordinate onsite activities to utilize resources to facilitate repairs in the most expedient and cost-effective manner.
  • Ensure an adequate amount of spare parts are on hand at all times, and submit requisitions to Rig Manager/Purchasing Manager for approval.
  • Maintain records of all mechanical inventories, and perform additional duties, responsibilities, and special projects as may be directed.

Requirements

  • Proficient in the functionality of rig equipment, and knowledgeable and proficient in basic rigger's role to ensure safe lifting operations are performed.
  • Must possess and maintain certifications and licenses as required by the appropriate regulatory authorities, and have proficient knowledge of diagnostic equipment.
  • Must be a self-motivator and work without close supervision, and be able to prioritize jobs and work under tight time constraints.
  • Must have good PC skills, including MS Office products, and be able to effectively communicate in English with staff, management, customers, and vendors.
  • Must be able to recognize hazards, alarms, and warnings, and have the ability to communicate to the proper personnel.

Working Conditions

  • Ability to work around moving machinery, and perform under stress, under pressure, and/or in emergency situations.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move objects of up to 50 pounds, and operate machinery and/or power tools.
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions, and ability to multitask, work in a fast-paced environment, meet deadlines, reason logically, and make sound decisions.
  • Ability to comprehend, remember, and follow verbal and written directions, and comply with Company policies, procedures, and standards.
