Job Summary

The Relief Support Assistant plays a vital role in providing specialized and modified learning activities to students with diverse needs. This position requires a high level of discretion, flexibility, and adaptability to work with designated students, either individually or in small groups, to provide academic assistance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with implementing specialized and modified learning activities to provide a positive learning experience for students with diverse needs.
  • Work with designated students to provide academic assistance, either individually or in small groups.
  • Support services will have a direct impact on students and their families, increasing the likelihood of students remaining in the education system and gaining the skills required to be successful in life.
  • Provide instruction in core academic subjects, including reading, writing, and mathematics, to students in a wide range of grade levels.
  • Read and comprehend appropriate materials, including reading and mathematics textbooks, at a basic understanding of teaching, instruction, and classroom management techniques.
  • Apply interpersonal and verbal, written, and listening communication skills to interact with students, teachers, and other stakeholders.
  • Acquire knowledge of the goals, objectives, and operations of the school and DEA, as well as the local people and culture.
Requirements
  • High School/Secondary School diploma, and related experience in an educational environment.
  • Ability to read and understand instructions, IEPs, meeting minutes, and communications.
  • Planning and organization, and time management skills.
  • Ability to acquire knowledge relating to community resources and services.
Working Conditions

This is a Relief position with no established hours of work on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. The Relief Support Assistant may be required to report to work on an as-and-when-required basis for facilities where services operate on a daily basis throughout the entire year.
