Job Summary:

The Food Coordinator is responsible for implementing the school's nutrition programming, including preparing breakfast, lunch, and/or snack, maintaining kitchen spaces and food storage areas in compliance with safe food handling practices, and ordering food and supplies. The successful candidate will value and uphold rigorous food safety standards while receiving, preparing, and serving food, as well as when maintaining nutrition spaces.

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare meals for breakfast, lunch, and snack

Set menus for breakfast, lunch, and snack with support from the divisional nutrition programming coordinator and Child Nutrition Council of Manitoba

Maintain nutrition facilities such as kitchens, food and supply storage areas, and eating rooms daily in accordance with public health guidelines for food handling establishments

Manage food and supply ordering and receive and verify deliveries in accordance with safe food handling procedures

Engage continually with children and youth to ensure meals reflect the diversity of preferences, requirements, and cultural backgrounds within schools

Requirements:

Complete secondary education

Minimum of 1-year prior experience in food preparation, ideally for large groups

Experience purchasing and receiving food and supplies and keeping accurate records

Experience working with children and youth

A working knowledge of safe food handling practices

A working knowledge of Canada's Food Guide

Hold, or be willing to attain, a valid Food Handler Certificate
