Financial Coordinator

Simon Fraser University is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Financial Assistant to provide clerical and financial support to the supervisor and reception and general office assistance to the Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry. The successful candidate will assist the Manager with processing research payroll appointments, business and travel expense reports, electronic and manual journal vouchers, cash advance, timesheets and invoices. They will also prepare and process a variety of financial transactions and documents, assist departmental staff, faculty, etc. with using university's financial systems and applications, and respond to inquiries and requests for information regarding routine transactions/record. Additionally, the candidate will maintain knowledge of and interpret and implement university regulations, Tri-Agency Guidelines, and procedures governing use of research funds and communicate these requirements to users. The successful candidate will also respond to requests for general information, type correspondence, and maintain accurate database and spreadsheet records. They will also maintain departmental webpages and social media channels, sort and distribute mail, arrange for courier services, and order and maintain office supplies.
Responsibilities
- Provide clerical and financial support to the supervisor and reception and general office assistance to the Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry.
- Assist the Manager with processing research payroll appointments, business and travel expense reports, electronic and manual journal vouchers, cash advance, timesheets and invoices.
- Prepare and process a variety of financial transactions and documents.
- Assist departmental staff, faculty, etc. with using university's financial systems and applications.
- Respond to inquiries and requests for information regarding routine transactions/record.

Qualifications
- High school graduation and one year of post-secondary education or formal program equivalent.
- 3 years of experience.
- An equivalent combination of formal education, certificate/program of study and experience is acceptable.
