Position Overview

As a valued member of the Victoria General Hospital team, we are seeking a skilled and compassionate Healthcare Support Specialist to join our multidisciplinary team.

  • Provide exceptional patient care and support, working collaboratively with healthcare professionals to ensure the highest level of care.
  • Perform a variety of clerical tasks, including communication and administrative duties, to maintain the smooth operation of the unit.

Experience

  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting is preferred, with a focus on patient care and support.
  • Experience working in a PAC environment is also an asset.

Education

  • A high school education, meeting Manitoba standards, is required.
  • Successful completion of both the Health Care Aide and Unit Clerk programs is also required.

Special Training

  • Basic keyboarding skills, with a minimum of 30-50 words per minute, are required.
  • Medical terminology, with a minimum 75% pass mark, is also required.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel, is required.
  • Patient Access Registry Tool (PART) experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Concordia Slating is also preferred.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • CPR training requirements will be in accordance with the Employer policy, with ongoing training in Compressions provided as per Code Blue Policy.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Information and/or training will be provided within the probation period for the following: Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS) and Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions). Regional, site and unit policies and procedures. Roles and responsibilities of members of the health care team.
  • General skills and ability to perform all tasks and responsibilities relevant to the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize assigned workload.
  • Ability to recognize and pursue self-development opportunities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to respond to a variety of simultaneous demands.
  • Ability to follow direction.
  • Ability to perform as a team member and seek assistance as necessary.
  • General administrative and secretarial skills and ability to perform all tasks and responsibilities relevant to duties of the position.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills ensuring effective interpersonal and interdepartmental communication.
  • Utilize a positive approach to problem-solving in all aspects of job responsibilities.
  • Ability to operate information technology equipment as required, e.g. fax, photocopier, computer, etc.
  • Demonstrated excellent command of the English language (both oral and written).

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to function effectively in a stressful environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Position may involve physical activity such as lifting, transferring and transporting patients and equipment.
