About the Role
Total Safety is seeking a highly experienced and skilled Safety Professional to join our team. As a key member of our safety team, you will be responsible for ensuring the health and safety of our clients and contractors on site.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a health and safety leader for our clients and contractors on the worksite, promoting a culture of safety and well-being.
- Build strong relationships with site workers, supervisors, subcontractors, and clients, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment.
- Advocate for and enforce all rules, policies, and procedures related to health and safety, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and company policies.
- Contribute to site operations and planning, identifying and mitigating safety risks to ensure a safe working environment.
- Monitor worksite activities for compliance with health and safety standards and operational procedures, providing solutions to address any non-compliance issues.
- Intervene in unsafe acts and conditions, taking appropriate action to promote safe behaviors and a safe working environment.
- Audit worksites for non-compliance safety issues, recommending corrective actions to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
- Conduct and participate in accident investigations, providing input on how to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
- Follow up on and track corrective actions stemming from incident investigations, audits, inspections, and hazard reports.
- Coordinate and participate in safety meetings, ensuring effective communication and collaboration among team members.
- Stay up-to-date with applicable legislation and industry developments, adapting to changes and ensuring Total Safety remains a leader in health and safety.
Requirements
- Minimum 7 years' progressive/senior level safety experience in the civil construction/plant industry.
- National Construction Safety Officer Certification (or similar designation).
- Strong understanding of Alberta OH&S legislation.
- Valid safety tickets: H2S Alive, Standard First Aid, Confined Space Entry/Monitor, and Ground Disturbance Level 2.
- Ability to work a rotational schedule, travel, and work outdoors.
- Valid Driver's License and clean Driver's Abstract.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work with limited supervision and exercise initiative and sound judgment.
