Job SummaryWe seek a skilled Private Lands Forest Manager to oversee forest operations, develop strategic plans, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. This role requires excellent communication skills, strong analytical abilities, and experience working with landowners and contractors.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement holistic forest management plans, incorporating innovative approaches and traditional expertise.
- Supervise road construction, maintenance, and harvesting operations, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and environmental regulations.
- Manage wood product marketing and sales, leveraging industry contacts and networks.
- Secure public funding for projects, utilizing negotiation and problem-solving skills.
- Conduct thorough stumpage and land valuations, providing accurate assessments and recommendations.
- Bachelor of Science in Forestry or equivalent extensive experience in a leadership role within the Nova Scotia and/or New Brunswick forestry industry.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in roles such as stumpage buyer, woodlands manager, or supervisor of harvesting/silviculture operations.
- Strong network of industry contacts and experience marketing various wood products.
- Proven ability to engage with landowners and manage land acquisition.
- Exceptional organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and make sound judgments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, ArcGIS, and the use of smartphones and drones.
- Valid Nova Scotia driver's license (Class 5 or equivalent) and reliable vehicle suitable for forest roads.
- Current residency in Canada and valid work permit are required.
