The Manager, Compensation and Benefits will lead the day-to-day activities of the Compensation, Benefits and Job Design units, providing expert advice to all levels of the university and consulting with senior leaders to develop relevant plans.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the compensation side of total compensation, guiding and advising leaders and managers on market differentials and other salary compensation methods.
  • Provide strategic direction for all benefit plans, ensuring they meet employee needs, comply with legal requirements, and are cost-effective.
  • Ensure effective application of the university-wide job evaluation programs for unionized and non-unionized positions, working closely with university leaders and managers to address their operational and strategic needs.
  • Develop and recommend policies and procedures, taking into account applicable collective agreements, handbooks, university policies, and best practices.
  • Serve as a compensation and benefits resource for labour relations and collective bargaining processes, acting as chair of joint employer/union job evaluation committees.

Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field, such as Business Administration or Public Administration, plus at least seven years of experience in human resources consulting, with a focus on compensation and/or benefits.
  • Human resources experience in a unionized work environment.
  • Excellent relationship-building, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Strong collaboration and problem-solving ability with proven sound judgement.
