About the RoleWe are seeking a compassionate and skilled Support Advocate to join our team in Renfrew, Ontario. This is a part-time opportunity that offers 20-24 hours of work per week, including days, afternoons, evenings, and weekends on a rotational schedule.
Job SummaryThe Support Advocate will provide essential support and services to individuals who are deafblind, enabling them to live independently and fulfill their potential. This role involves using communication techniques to relay information, supporting daily living activities, and empowering individuals to participate in their communities.
Key Responsibilities- Provide personal care and assistance as needed, including lifts and transfers, toileting, personal hygiene, and medication administration.
- Assist individuals in developing and achieving personal goals and objectives.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals and other stakeholders to ensure comprehensive support.
- Document and maintain accurate records of individual progress and support plans.
To be successful in this role, you will require:
- A college diploma or certificate in Intervenor for Deafblind Persons program or a related field.
- Experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities and challenging behaviors.
- Strong communication skills, including American Sign Language (ASL) or Signed Exact English (SEE).
- A valid driver's license, reliable vehicle, and clean driving record.
