About the Role:
The Culinary Specialist will be responsible for preparing and cooking meals for palliative care patients residing at Sakura House. This role requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team to ensure high-quality food service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare meals in accordance with approved menus and nutritional guidelines.
- Maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment, adhering to Public Health Standards.
- Order and receive ingredients and supplies, ensuring proper storage and rotation.
- Assist with inventory control and disposal procedures.
- Communicate effectively with clients, staff, and volunteers to ensure seamless food service.
- Adhere to established policies and procedures, including those related to food handling and safety.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; culinary school diploma an asset.
- Minimum one year of experience in food preparation, preferably in a healthcare or hospitality setting.
- Food Handler's Certificate and Food Service Worker certificate preferred.
- Ability to read, prepare, and plan menus, as well as prepare meals within time deadlines.
- Knowledge of proper food handling, cooking to specific nutritional guidelines, temperature control, and good hygiene practices.
Work Environment:
This role requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with attention to detail and the ability to lift moderate weights. The successful candidate will be able to work some weekends and holidays, and may be required to travel.
