About the Role

Nesters Market is seeking an experienced Meat Department Manager to oversee the daily operations of our Meat Department. This is a full-time position that reports to the Store Manager.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide guidance and supervision to department staff to ensure exceptional customer service.
  2. Maximize sales and gross profit through effective merchandising strategies.
  3. Maintain department inventory by placing product orders regularly while adhering to departmental budgets.
  4. Recruit, train, and mentor staff members to ensure a high-performing team.
  5. Create the weekly department work schedule to ensure efficient operations.
  6. Cut, trim, debone, and prepare standard cuts of meat according to specifications using knives and power tools.
  7. Wrap and package prepared meats to ensure quality and presentation.
  8. Prepare special cuts and orders as per customer requests.
  9. Ensure all prepared items are properly labeled, covered, and rotated to maintain freshness.
  10. Present a neat, fresh, and well-merchandised department to attract customers.
  11. Ensure the proper set up of racks, tables, coolers, and backroom areas.
  12. Handle customer inquiries, requests, and complaints in a prompt, polite, and effective manner.
  13. Keep all equipment clean, well-maintained, and fully operational.
  14. Comply with the Company's established Health and Safety and Food Safety policies and ensure that staff members are also adhering to these policies.
  15. Responsible for ensuring accuracy of store signage with regards to pricing.
  16. Liaise with the store manager, department heads, and meat department staff to address any concerns, discuss upcoming promotions, cross-merchandising, etc.
Requirements
  1. Previous, relevant meat department experience, preferably in a supervisory capacity.
  2. Post-secondary Meat Cutting training or journeyman certification preferred.
  3. Proven ability to process a variety of meat cuts.
  4. Able to lead a team in an enthusiastic and positive manner.
  5. Superb customer service skills with a desire to provide customers with a great shopping experience.
  6. Exceptional leadership and organizational skills.
  7. Outstanding communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
  8. Knowledge of health and safety legislation, policies, and practices.
  9. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under pressure.
  10. Able to maintain a professional demeanor under stressful situations.
  11. Experience in effective merchandising that drives sales.
  12. Have experience ordering and maintaining department stock.
  13. Flexibility to work a variety of hours, including days, evenings, weekends, and stat holidays.
Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities
  1. Ability to perform physically demanding, repetitive physical tasks for extended periods.
  2. Job requires manual dexterity, attention to detail, hand-eye coordination.
  3. Walking and standing for extended periods, including bending, twisting, crouching, and kneeling at times.
  4. Physical ability to stand, lift, and handle up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  5. Cold environment, noisy, with some strong odours.
