About the Role

The Weld Shop Assistant will play a crucial role in the fabrication of our products by performing various tasks that are essential in keeping production moving in the steel fabrication shop.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist machine operators, fitters/welders, shippers/receivers, and other team members in the fabrication process.
  • Operate basic hand tools and equipment, including cranes, to move materials and supplies.
  • Perform housekeeping duties, including cleaning and organizing the work area.
  • Grind and insulate materials as required.
  • Follow safe work practices and regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Properly fill out timecards and maintain accurate records.
  • Assist with shipping and receiving activities, including moving materials to racks, storage, and stores.
  • Clean and prepare materials for production, including grinding, surfacing, caulking, and polishing.
  • Paint and finish materials as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
  • Basic reading and writing skills.
  • Able to perform physically demanding work.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to measure with a tape measure accurately.
  • Able to operate basic hand tools and equipment.
  • Ability to learn and apply new teachings, obtaining weld certifications as required.
  • Able to work at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs as needed.
  • Safety conscious work habits.
  • Effective communication skills (both written & verbal).
  • Accountable and able to work in a team or with minimum supervision.
