Job Summary

The Bilingual Deputy Registrar position for Manitoba Justice, Court Operations involves considerable in-person client-facing contact and assistance to the public and the legal profession related to regulations or procedures and completion of court documents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and process documents for prompt filing pursuant to Court of King's Bench Rules and various federal and provincial statutes, acts, and regulations.
  • Issue all court pleadings, process documents filed in all divisions of the Court of King's Bench (civil, family, child protection, criminal, probate, small claims, and bankruptcy) and enter information on the Court Registry System according to a standards manual.
  • Provide information in person, over the phone, and in writing to members of the public and legal profession and ensure quality control of legal documents flowing through the court.
  • Work effectively in a team environment and contribute toward a respectful workplace.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision and make independent decisions using sound judgment.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience performing administrative duties, including reviewing and processing documentation in a court, legal or related environment.
  • Experience providing in-person service to the public, judiciary, legal profession, law enforcement agencies or other justice partners.
  • Ability to maintain accuracy and pay attention to detail.
  • Experience interpreting and applying a wide variety of policies, procedures, acts, statutes and regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including diplomacy and tact.
  • Excellent English verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate legal principles in plain language.
  • Excellent English written communication skills, including proficiency in spelling, grammar, punctuation and syntax.
  • Excellent French verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent French written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience dealing with processes, procedures and documents within the Court of King's Bench.
  • Experience working with court-related computer systems, such as the Court Registry System.

Working Conditions

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Must provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, Child Abuse Registry Check, and Adult Abuse Registry Check.
  • Must provide a satisfactory Enhanced Security Check.
  • Ability to work overtime when required with little notice.
