Key Responsibilities

  1. Provide personal care to clients, adhering to administrative policies and recognized nursing principles.
  2. Participate in the activation process to promote clients' overall well-being.
  3. Observe and report significant changes in clients' physical and emotional conditions, documenting in PCC.
  4. Assist clients with activities of daily living, including laundry, housekeeping, and personal care.
  5. Develop and maintain professional work ethics and effective working relationships with colleagues, clients, and families.
  6. Contribute to the development and revision of policies and procedures related to Quality Risk Management programs.
  7. Utilize electronic systems effectively and maintain a safe environment.
  8. Take responsibility for own ethical behavior and assist in the orientation of new staff members and students.
  9. Input into client care plans and assessments, and complete documentation as required.
  10. Respond immediately to client emergencies and follow safe work practices.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned, working in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the Long Term Care Homes Act.
  12. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and the Personal Health Information Protection Act.
  13. Participate in educational in-services and identify personal and group educational needs.

Education, Technical Skills, and Certification

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Completion of, or currently enrolled in, the Personal Support Worker Certification program
  • Ability to work with others in an inter-professional care team
  • Good physical condition to meet the physical demands of the position
  • Effectiveness working with minimal supervision, with proven reliability and trustworthiness
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good leadership and organizational skills
  • First Aid certificate an asset
  • Proof of annual CPR recertification
  • Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
  • As a condition of employment, candidates are required to submit documented results of TB testing
  • Bilingualism in English and French is considered an asset

Experience

No experience necessary with the required education.

Effort

Some physical effort will be required when assisting clients with activities of daily living and performing housekeeping duties.

Working Conditions

May be exposed to illnesses/viruses while working with clients.
