About the Role

The Refrigeration Maintenance Mechanic is a key member of our team at Farm Boy, responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our industrial equipment and systems. As a skilled technician, you will be responsible for the ongoing repair and maintenance of all equipment in the Central Facility, reporting any issues to your Supervisor/Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, test, troubleshoot, and repair industrial equipment to ensure reliable operation and maintain targeted throughput and efficiency standards.
  • Assess, report on, promote, and carry out process improvements initiatives to enhance machine and system reliability and performance.
  • Perform daily checks on ammonia and water tower systems as per TSSA requirements and manage TSSA inspection visits.
  • Assist with setting up and maintaining the preventive maintenance program, carry out maintenance activities, work orders, and replacement or repair of defective parts, components, or system performance testing.
  • Evaluate the condition of instrumentation, devices, and parts in operations by checking calibration, listening to their sounds, verifying pressures, temperatures, etc.
  • Maintain files, records, line diagrams, etc. of electrical and instrumentation equipment and installations.
  • Complete required documentation, log books, timesheets, etc. to ensure compliance.
  • Adhere to and fully participate in the company's Food Safety, Health & Safety, Environmental, and Management system and maintain a safe and clean work environment.
  • Direct and lead contractors during plant shutdowns and assist in the setup of new stores, installations, and project work as required.
  • Respond to off-hours emergencies as required and be on scheduled on-call rotation as well as provide essential services coverage during plant shutdowns and statutory holidays.
  • Work in a self-directed manner by managing time and tasks to complete work assigned.
  • Champion and implement at least one continuous improvement activity each year.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in Refrigeration and equipment maintenance and repairs with current Ammonia Refrigeration Operator Class B license.
  • Experience with CMMS would be considered an asset.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to read, write, and/or interpret reports, mechanical and civil drawings, and sketches.
  • Good time management skills and ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Good organizational skills with high standards of cleanliness.
  • Personable and outgoing with strong communication skills.
  • Ability to climb ladders and use general maintenance tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of Food, Health, and Safety regulations in a manufacturing environment.
  • Dependable, trustworthy, and must be bondable.
  • Flexible as to hours and days of work with the ability to travel.
  • Certification in CPR/First Aid would be an asset.

Work Environment

  • Occasional requirement to wear cumbersome protective clothing or equipment.
  • Possible exposure to dangerous or unpleasant environmental elements such as dirt or dust, extreme temperatures, and adverse weather conditions for driving and/or for outdoor work.
  • Will be required to lift, carry, and/or handle heavy objects.
