Environmental Specialist
We are seeking an Environmental Specialist to join our team at Montrose Environmental Group. As an Environmental Specialist, you will be responsible for conducting environmental inspections, assessing erosion sediment control, and supporting field-based project tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct environmental inspections and assessments
- Support field-based project tasks, including deploying air quality monitors and performing soil sampling
- Contribute to proposal development and project scoping
- Work on a diverse variety of projects that span several service lines
- Demonstrate problem-solving skills, be a proactive communicator, and take initiative
- Collaborate with private and public sector clients, approval agencies, sub-consultants, and subcontractors
- Manage and provide leadership and technical input on environmental assessment, planning, design, and construction projects
- Engage and liaise with stakeholders, including conservation authorities, municipal, provincial, and federal governments, and the public
- Coordinate with internal project team across disciplines, including engineers, hydrogeologists, and ecologists
- Prepare technical reports, proposals, and cost estimates for multi-disciplinary projects
- Mentor and develop other staff members
Requirements:
- 5-7 years of planning experience in a consulting or directly related role
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in environmental planning, urban planning, geography, environmental science, or a related field
- Candidates with CAN-CISEC certification preferred
- Knowledge and working experience with regulatory requirements such as Municipal Class EA process and the Canadian Impact Assessment Act
- Ability to work on various projects in various sectors, including urban, transportation, infrastructure, oil and gas, wind, and hydropower
- Experience engaging with stakeholders, including First Nations, municipal governments, conservation authorities, and the private sector
- Strong project management skills, including developing and monitoring of budgets, approved project scope, and schedule
- Strong organizational skills with the demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, plan, schedule, and coordinate various activities relating to projects and proposal submissions
- Familiar with Fisheries Act, Endangered Species Act, Navigation Protection Act, Environmental Protection Act, and other relevant legislation
- Experience researching, conceptualizing, planning, and writing drafts of reports related to planning, design, and permitting
- Valid G class driver's license required
Assets:
- Planning experience with environmental management on large infrastructure projects within Ontario
- Experience working with Metrolinx or MTO projects
- Technical abilities in the areas of ecological study design and coordination of large field programs
